The new live-action version is based on the events of the first film from 2016 and is about Moana, who answers the call of the sea and goes on a journey where she meets the selfish demigod Maui and tries to create better times for her people.

Moana is played by 17-year-old Australian actress Catherine Laga'aia, while Dwayne Johnson takes on the role of Maui, who also voiced the same character in the previous two films.
