SUNRISE ON THE REAPING, the latest prequel to the Hunger Games saga, is set 24 years before the events of Katniss Everdeen's original trilogy, placing it roughly four decades after the final story, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The story revolves around the fateful year in which Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss and Peeta's future mentor, is selected to participate in the second Quarter Quell, an event that drastically changes the rules of the Hunger Games. Instead of the usual two tributes per district, each district must instead send four, resulting in 48 participants in the arena, the largest number in Panem's history, twice the number of casualties, and an even lower chance of survival.
