“Bandoneon Solo – Vol. V. – Don Quixote” is the title of the 5th album of the series dedicated to the bandoneon solo recordings by the Denmark-based Italian bandoneon player, pianist and composer Paolo Russo.

While the previous albums were dedicated to jazz standards (1st and 4th) and to original compositions (2nd and 3rd), this 5th album release is entirely devoted to reinterpretations of some of the most beloved classic pieces from Argentina and Brazil. Paolo has chosen and arranged for bandoneon solo 5 tunes from the vast and magnificent Argentine tango, milonga and folklore tradition (A. Villoldo, C. Gardel, A. Ramirez, A. Piazzolla) and 5 pieces from the wonderful and inspiring Brazilian music world (A. C. Jobim, C. Buarque, E. Gismonti, J. do Bandolim, M. Nascimento). The last tune, “Don Quixote”, by Milton Nascimento, gives the title to the album, inspired by and related to the iconic character narrated by Miguel de Cervantes in what is commonly considered being one of the finest masterpieces of the World literature, “El ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha”.

“I’ve been travelling extensively in Argentina, mostly, but also in Uruguay and Brazil, studying, researching, learning and connecting with some of the most wonderful musicians down there. I have been so inspired and overwhelmed by a tremendous amount of amazing music and it took me some time to digest it all. So, after many years, I finally felt ready to propose my own version of some of the tunes that speak to my heart. I believe that there are no limits in a true and authentic research, but I do also care about preserving the original musical message of every single composer, trying to bend it and filter it through my personal voice.
As Don Quijote says: «Music is the universal language that can unite people»”.

Paolo will present part of his latest Bandoneon solo album, as well as some music from his previous recordings and some new material both on bandoneon and piano.

ABOUT Paolo’s Jazz Club

Created in June 2022, Paolo’s Jazz Club is an intimate concert venue created around and by the pianist, bandoneonist and composer, Paolo Russo together with his wife, the singer, artist and voice awareness teacher, Katrine Krog Russo.

The venue is on the West part of island Møn in the Southern part of Denmark. Arriving from Copenhagen by car the trip takes approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes and free parking is available.
