The day before Palm Sunday, there will be a violin concert in Stege featuring a young virtuoso:
ADAM KOCH: Solo works by Bach
PROGRAM
Adam Koch has made a name for himself internationally with his interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach's solo works – the mother tongue of the violin, as Adam himself describes it. He has performed Bach's sonatas and partitas at several international competitions, including the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hanover. At this concert, he presents a selection of Bach's masterpieces for solo violin – music that demands both technical virtuosity and artistic depth.
Selected works by Johann Sebastian Bach:
– Solo Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001
– Solo Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006
– Solo Partita No. 2, 1004, “Chaconne”
As well as a solo sonata by Belgian composer Eugène Ysaÿe.
ABOUT ADAM KOCH
As one of his generation's young, up-and-coming violinists, Adam Koch is establishing himself as a multifaceted artist. Over the past few years, he has been based in Berlin, studying with violinist and conductor Professor Kolja Blacher at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. Adam Koch spent his early years of study in Copenhagen with Serguei Azizian, Eszter Haffner, and Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider.
Adam Koch has won prizes at major international competitions such as the J. Brahms, Tibor Varga, and Salzburg Mozart violin competitions, and he has participated in chamber music festivals in Denmark and abroad. These days, he and violist Nicholas Swensen run the Oremandsgaard Chamber Music Festival, which focuses on classical chamber music as well as brand new music, working closely with the composers.
During his studies, Adam Koch has been in high demand as a concertmaster. In the 2021-22 season, he will be guest concertmaster and soloist with the Leopoldinum String Orchestra in Wrocław, guest concertmaster with the Royal Chapel in the 2022-23 season, and guest concertmaster with the DRSO in January 2024. His interest in conducting has led to parallel studies at the DR Malko Academy for young conductors 2020-22, including a masterclass with Herbert Blomstedt. As concertmaster at the Royal Chapel, he also had the opportunity to conduct in Peter Schaffer's Amadeus performance.
