MØNS LANDSKAB I JERNALEDEREN (Møn's landscape in the iron leader) – lecture by geographer Jan Magnussen

We look forward to welcoming geographer Jan Magnussen when he gives a lecture at Stege about his book Møns landskab i jernalderen (The Landscape of Møn in the Iron Age).

In this book, published in 2024, Jan Magnussen takes us on an exciting journey through the landscape and development of Møn from the Iron Age to the present day. Using the landscape's landmarks, place names, burial mounds, and old maps as his starting point, he reveals how the natural and cultural landscape has changed over approximately 2,000 years—and how human activities and the forces of nature have jointly shaped the character of the island.

With his deep professional insight and lively storytelling, Jan Magnussen makes complex landscape processes and historical traces understandable and engaging—both for locals and anyone interested in history, geography, map reading, and our physical surroundings.

Come and hear the author himself talk about the themes of the book, the methods behind the work, and the many stories hidden in the landscape of Møn – a lecture for everyone who loves our cultural heritage and the stories of nature.

About the author

Jan Magnussen holds a Master of Science degree in cultural geography and has had a long career in academia and public planning. He has been an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, rector of the University Centre of Southern Jutland, and later director of education, business, and culture in Frederiksborg County. He has also played an active role in public debate and has been chairman of both the Danish Social Science Research Council and the Danish Board of Technology. Today, he is retired and continues to be involved in communicating landscape, history, and social development.
